Why enterprises are leaving Alteryx
Your team outgrew Alteryx. Rising per-seat costs, governance gaps, desktop-bound workflows that can’t scale to Databricks or Snowflake, and rewrites just to reach production. These aren’t edge cases — they’re the top reasons enterprises migrate.

- No single source of truth for data workflows
- Governance gaps with cloud data platforms
- Workflows stuck on desktop, hard to operationalize
- Rising per-seat licensing costs
- Zero portability across Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery
- Rewrites required for every production deployment
The question isn’t whether to modernize — it’s how fast you can do it without disrupting your teams.
Alteryx vs. Prophecy: What changes
Desktop-bound visual workflows in a proprietary black box. No version control, limited governance, no native integration with your data platform.
Every move to production or platform change requires rewriting proprietary logic from scratch.
AI agents generate visual data workflows from plain-language prompts. Users validate each step for tremendous productivity gains.
Visual workflows are real code on Git — for any SQL or Spark platform — with built-in governance, versioning, tests, and CI/CD for production.

FAQ
What are the main reasons people end up migrating from Alteryx to Prophecy?
For most, native integration with their data platform - Databricks, Snowflake or BigQuery - is highly appealing, it simplifies governance & removes a second system. Users are enthusiastic about the productivity that AI agents can bring to the familiar and powerful visual interface, keen to now be able to work with large datasets, and build production grade assets. Platform teams like the governance and are happy to get rid of rewrites for production.
If we leave Alteryx, will we lose the visual development features our low-code analysts need to create their own workflows?
Absolutely not. Your analysts won’t have to give up any visual development capabilities when you leave Alteryx. Prophecy has an equally robust visual canvas with rich data preparation operators to support low-code users. What's more, your analysts will get AI agents that make visual development faster and simpler. Bringing change that empowers them like the change that coders got with AI agents.
Our engineers don’t trust low-code tools so why would they want this one?
The truth is, engineers are wary of the outputs of most low-code tools, for very good reasons. But uniquely in Prophecy, visual data workflows are code underneath. For engineers to put these workflows into production, they simply access native code with tests for their own cloud data platform. They still review, test, and extend the generated code as with any other Spark or SQL project.
How can truly non-technical users–even with the help of AI–possibly create legitimately useful, complex workflows?
Prophecy provides Claude Code specialized for data, capable of generating million-line codebases and handling the most complex data workflows. There are two key elements to producing trusted results. First, user prompts generate workflows that can be visually inspected and validated step by step. Second, even the most complex workflows can be built by stitching together smaller segments one by one — with each segment validated and trusted along the way.
How can we migrate all our workflows to a new system without risking significant downtime?
Most teams migrate incrementally in phases to control risk and keep business impact to a minimum. No big-bang rewrite required.
- Start with high-impact, low complexity workflows and work up from there
- Use the Alteryx Migration Tool (Transpiler) to import and refine workflows systematically
- Validate generated code quality
- Run systems side-by-side before decommissioning to ensure business continuity
What does the Alteryx Migration Tool (Transpiler) do?
The Transpiler imports existing Alteryx workflows, tests them in the Prophecy environment, fixes errors and data mismatches using AI and finally delivers a modernized visual workflow that looks similar to the original workflow. The workflows are converted with 90%+ accuracy, and the final refinements can then be made in the visual canvas.
Prophecy supports transpiling Alteryx workflows into Databricks SQL and other SQL formats will be supported.
How would moving to Prophecy reduce our costs?
Companies typically switch to Prophecy to:
Reduce per-seat licensing costs
- Avoid the cost of managing a second execution system, instead aligning with your data platform
- Avoid the cost of rewrites for moving workflows to production
Prophecy is licensed per user annually, with the compute cost paid to Databricks, effectively cutting the licensing spend more or less in half.
Can Prophecy help keep us compliant with data privacy rules?
Yes, Prophecy lets you save specific data handling logic as reusable functions. These can be called within the visual canvas as needed, for consistent application of rules like data privacy or calculations. This is particularly important in highly regulated industries and applications where mistakes in data handling can have catastrophic consequences.
How does Prophecy provide data governance and lineage?
Prophecy pushes compute to Databricks, tracking query history and inheriting Unity Catalog's role-based access controls, thereby providing full data lineage in a cloud-based environment. We similarly support Snowflake and BigQuery.
How do we know we aren’t just moving from one vendor lock-in to another when we migrate?
Code ownership and Git integration for your business logic are foundational to the Prophecy approach. Users retain full ownership of their generated SQL code, which can run inside and outside of Prophecy, and even supports the importing of dbt projects from Git repositories. All of which means you can walk away with all your code and projects any time.
We are working hard to deliver a service that will work for you forever. But if the time ever comes when you have to leave, you’ll have one last gigantic reason to be glad you chose Prophecy today.
